Founded in 1949 by Horace Hildreth Sr., former governor of Maine, Diversified began with a vision of connecting people and fostering innovation in media. 1949

Founded

Horace Hildreth Sr., the former governor of Maine and U.S. ambassador to Pakistan purchases of the WABI-AM radio station license in Bangor, Maine.

1953

Television

Hildreth Broadcasting launches WABI-TV, Maine’s first television station.

1954-1969

Growth

Hildreth Broadcasting purchases and invests in TV and radio stations across Maine.

1969

Merger

Hildreth Broadcasting merges with Journal Publications and welcome National Fisherman and Fish Expo.

1970

Media and Publications

Hildreth Broadcasting becomes Diversified Communications.

1970's & 1980's

Diversification

Diversified Communications purchases additional television stations outside of Maine and launches new publications such as WorkBoat magazine.

1985

Tradeshows

Diversified Communications acquires the Boston Seafood Show.

1988-1993

Growing Portfolio

The Events divisions adds new shows like The WorkBoat Show (1988) and The European Seafood Exposition (1993).

1998

Going Digital

Diversified Communications extends to digital media with the launch of Fish E-News.

2000

Australia

Acquires Australian Exhibition Services, building Diversified Communications Australia.

2002

Canada & UK

Acquires Full Moon Communications in the United Kingdom, building Diversified Communications UK and Diversified Communications Canada.

2009

Hong Kong

Establishes a division in Hong Kong acquiring an equity stake in Asia Business Events.

2011

Pri-Med

Diversified acquires Pri-Med, the leading provider of continuing medical education.

2014

Logo Update

Diversified Communications updates the brand logo.

2017

Divestment

Diversified Communications divests in broadcast media (WABI & WCJB) focusing on events and digital media. 

2020

Pandemic

Diversified Communications weathers the storm, despite a pause in live events, shifts to virtual events and focus on digital media. 

2024

Rebrand

Diversified Communications simplifies to Diversified to modernize and reflect today’s organization.
