Diversified Awarded “Platinum Fit-Friendly Worksite” in Maine

Diversified Communications announces the opening of its new fitness facility –– for 175 employees in their Portland office, at a Ribbon Cutting and Award Ceremony bringing together delegates from the Portland Regional Chamber and local community with staff and project partners. Diversified built the onsite fitness facility to expand its already comprehensive wellness program, DC Balance. The DC Balance program and the plans for the new fitness facility garnered the attention of the American Heart Association who awarded Diversified Communications with the Platinum Level Worksite and Worksite Innovation Awards.

The American Heart Associations’ Fit-Friendly Worksites Program recognizes organizations that make the health and wellness of their employees a priority by offering physical activity support, providing or increasing healthy eating options at the worksite, promoting a wellness culture, demonstrating measurable outcomes related to workplace wellness and implementing at least nine criteria in the areas of physical activity, nutrition and culture.

“We are very excited to offer this new onsite facility to our employees and proud of the exceptional program developed by our Human Resources team,” stated Ted Wirth, President of Diversified Communications. “It’s an honor to see their efforts culminate in the construction of the Fitness Zone and receive the recognition by the American Heart Association.”

The DC Balance program encompasses annual onsite health risk assessments in partnership with Health Coaches, quarterly wellness challenges to encourage healthy habits, and onsite classes with expert, local instructors of nutrition, meditation, yoga, Pilates, and cardiovascular and weight training. Classes will now be held in a dedicated fitness room on the first floor of the Fitness Zone. The 4,500 square foot facility will accommodate up to fifty employees simultaneously including a second floor with more than two dozen pieces of commercial grade cardiovascular and strength training equipment, and changing rooms with showers.

”Taking a mind, body and soul approach, our Human Resources Project Manager, Lisa McCann, has developed a very successful program that engages close to 95 percent of our employees.” said Janice Rogers, Diversified’s Vice President of Human Resources. “We partner with many local health and fitness professionals to provide both variety and quality of programming, and to ensure that there is something that appeals to every employee.

The construction of the Fitness Zone was part of a total office renovation, designed to let in as much natural light as possible and inspired by the motto, “People, Not Walls” coined by the company’s Chief Financial Officer, Paul Clancy. All products and services used to equip and build the space were sourced from Maine based companies.
